More about Latter Days...

Since a number of people expressed interest in this movie...

The official site has a good trailer and some nice images from the movie. Those are here: http://latterdaysthemovie.com/trailer_images.cfm

TLA is the studio releasing/distributing the film, so of course it will no doubt be the first place to have the dvd for sale once it's released. Someone on one of the message boards contacted TLA about the dvd, and was told they're shooting for an August release. TLA's info page is here. Since it's an independent film, it's not showing in a lot of theatres, but it is out there. The dates and theatres are listed on the official site here:
http://latterdaysthemovie.com/dates.cfm

Here's what they currently have listed. )

You can buy the book here.

There's a poster available too.

There are message boards both on the official site and on the movie's listing at IMDB that are very active and if you feel like venting either for or against the movie, you'd be in good company on either site. LOL

And I am going to try... )

While I'm on the subject...

I've been doing some research online about where the Mormon Church actually stands on homosexuality. Found some interesting things.

To Young Men Only
by Boyd K. Packer (A general authority in the Mormon Church... a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. This means anything he says is basically considered church doctrine.)
General Conference Priesthood Session, October 2, 1976

This speech is known in some circles as the "little factory" speech, since he likens a man's reproductive system to a little factory. One where you should not open the valve until you're married. I realize it what written in 1976, but it's so ridiculous it's almost funny.

Excerpt from article )

So that's how the church felt in 1976. What about now? Here's something a little more recent:
Same-Gender Attraction
By Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Ensign (an official church magazine), Oct. 1995

Several quotes from the article )

So basically, they do still think it's a behavior that can be changed, or at least controlled. I found a very disturbing story of one man's experience with aversion therapy which he received at Brigham Young University in 1995. This really did and does happen. No doubt it's still going on.
