My Holiday Song Collection

It's gotten big. Almost 800 tracks, and that's not including the silly Harry Potter & Star Wars holiday songs I found somewhere. They're pretty lame though IMHO, so they aren't included on the list. I had to use MS Word to put the list together, and I'm pretty sure it's too many characters for a single LJ post because of all the crap Word adds into html documents, so I'm just linking to the list.

Jen's 2010 Holiday Song Collection

If you want anything on the list, just ask. Except for The Brobecks song "Christmas Drag." You should go buy that one on iTunes 'cause Dallon Weekes & his adorable family need the money.

I pretty much tend to avoid songs with religious references and I love new songs more than the classics. Though I also enjoy comedy and even some kids stuff. If anyone has any great holiday songs that I don't have that seem like they'd fit in with my collection, share with me pretty please?

I should say... not all of these songs are good. I don't listen to all of them. I have a playlist of about 100 songs I'm listening to regularly this year. Maybe I'll post that list later. Or go look at my last.fm page. I've been listening to my holiday playlist quite a bit lately.

I was expecting it to be sillier than it was. It has some funny moments, but on the whole it's just lovely and sweet and honest. But the real win was the note at the end saying proceeds are going to The National Autistic Society. I have a nephew with fairly severe autism, so... yeah. Even though NAS is a UK charity and my family is in the US, I'm still buying the song (probably would have ripped it from YouTube otherwise). Thanks for the rec!!

I have the entire Barenaked Ladies "Barenaked for the Holidays" album if you are interested. Would be glad to share with you...

Thanks my dear! Finally got around to listening to the whole thing today. I love their version of Jingle Bells, but I think Elf's Lament is still my favorite song off this album. :-D

Wow that is a lot of songs! I didn't know Bright Eyes even had a Christmas album! I'm going to have to take a good long leisurely look at this later and compare notes.

How are the Amy Grant songs? She was one of my favorite singers growing up.

I need a list from you now!

Amy Grant does a fantastic job of the Christmas songs. She has the perfect voice for them and the arrangements are really good. I actually have both of the CDs of hers that you see songs listed for, but I only ripped some of the tracks to mp3. So many of hers are religious though, and I've gone from Mormon to non-denominational Christian to now being agnostic from a scientific standpoint and borderline atheist, so I just don't enjoy the religious songs as much. But if you like them, I'm pretty sure you'll like Amy's Christmas music. And I'll rip the other songs off them if you want.
