That's a narrowed down list of favorites. I have more. Bah! Ha ha! Anyone have any suggestions for additions to the list? I do enjoy happy holiday music too, but songs like these usually fit my mood better at Christmastime. Meh.

I'm having trouble uploading a zip with all the songs in it. Giving up on that for the moment, unless someone really wants it.

One of my personal favorite weird Christmas songs is "I Did it for the Toys" by the Dance Hall Crashers. Basically it is about a lecherous Santa and the lyrics are like "Santa kissed me and I kissed him back, but I did it for the toys, thought I could get more from him than I did from other boys..." Hah.

The Maine did a cover of Wham's "Last Christms" which is among the most emo Christmas songs ever.

MC Lars did "Gary the Green Nosed Reindeer" which is a rap about Rudolph's illegitimate brother Gary that includes the words "permafrost" and "jihadmobile" and the lyric "Santa said 'Whatever, just put on this harness.'" LOL

Saosin did "Mookie's Last Christmas," which is pretty sad/emo. Kind of similar to "Yule"...but in my mind "Yule" is and will always be the classic example of the genre - "MERRY CHRISTMAS, I COULD CARE LESS!" :D

Sorry I can't send them but I am still banished to no-broadband land!

Oooh... never heard of the first one. Might have to look for that - it sounds fun. ;-D

I haven't heard The Maine's version of Last Christmas, but I have a version by Jimmy Eat World. But if I'm going to listen to that song, I kind of have to listen to the original version. I was a big Wham fan back in the 80's. But even though the song is all ~sad, it's too mushy for my anti-Christmas mood. I guess some of the other ones on my list are just as mushy, but ::shrug::

I have both of the other too you mentioned too, and Gary the Green Nosed Reindeer was hilarious. I'll have to listen to Mookie's Last Christmas again.

Hope you're having fun with the family! Ugh, no broadband land. Sorry!

P.S. - Your fakers emails were interesting. Poor sad attention-seeking people. Heh.

::hugs::

I don't like Christmas much so most of my seasonal songs are pretty miserable *g*

A Christmas Carol by Tom Lehrer is very cynical and I think it's very funny.
Fairytale of New York by The Pogues isn't very Christmassy.
The Ditchling Carol by The Watersons (contains the line "The Poor have only Christmas" and is very dirge-like IMO)
7 O'Clock News/Silent Night by Simon and Garfunkel (news from Viet Nam at the time of the war overlaid/drowning out Silent Night)

I'm sure I know more but I can't think of them *g*

OMG I haven't talked to you in ages! The only one of those I have is The Pogues one. I'll have to look for the others. All three sound interesting. Thanks! I'd tell you Merry Christmas, but... you know. Have a good Dec. 25th though. ;-)

I'll do my best. We're planning a quiet time except for Saturday when I will have five guests for a buffet lunch (making a mere seven people - I could cope with more *g*). I wish you all good things over the holidays too :-)

If you like humour with, sometimes, a touch of dark sickness to it, you might like Tom Lehrer. He's an American singer/songwriter (in some cases he uses an established tune so maybe he's a filkwriter??? *g*) with a gravelly voice that I wouldn't care for except he makes every word audible and they are such funny words *g* "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" is one of my favourites from him, also "The Masochism Tango" and for some reason I *adore* "The Elements" which is simply the names of all the elements (silver, gold, antimony, uranium etc.) strung together in a suitable order to the tune of "Modern Major-General". It amuses me every time *g*
