So, ummm... Usually I love it when the parents take off for a while and I have the house to myself, but I'm kind of not in a good place depression-wise right now, and I think being here alone might be bad rather than good at the moment. :|

So yeah, I guess I just kind of dove right into the whole here's how I'm doing thing. )

Mostly, I've just been sleeping, or watching The Owl Box. 'Cause fuzzy little baby owl butts pretty much always make me smile. Seriously, they are adorable.

Note: this post has taken me more than 24 hours to write. If that helps give you an idea of where my concentration level is at. Also, screw proper sentence structure. :-P

Meme (yes, really)

jenepherre: (Cmas PATD Bden Naughty or Nice?)
Doing it because as far as I know, all of my friends were nice enough (and smart enough) *not* to tag me. Ha.

a. People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.

b. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you. (Like many of my friends, I'm refusing anyway. I hate being ordered to do something that should be voluntary. But any of my friends who haven't done this yet are invited to.)

1. What are your nicknames?
Other than some members of my family still calling me Jenny - a name I haven't gone by in decades and they all know I hate it - I don't have any nicknames that I know of

2. How do you style your hair?
hehe Style? What's that? It's pretty long right now, so I put it up in a bun or a ponytail usually. I have started straightening it sometimes when I'm going to a show or somewhere where I know I might have my picture taken.

3. What's new in your life right now?
The PATD Live in Chicago CD/DVD and book \o/ Also, depression pretty bad for the past few days. This is my worst time of year for it though, so I'm trying not to think of it as a major setback.

4. How many colors are you wearing now?
Red, black, charcoal gray, heather gray, white... so 5

5. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Introvert, usually. Oddly assertive around celebrities though.

6. What was the last book you read?
Does Shane Valdés's "A Picture With Books" count? No? Then it was an excerpt from "Professional Guide to Diseases" or "The Merck Manual."

7. Do you nap a lot?
Not more than once a day. Is that a lot?

8. If the person you secretly like is already taken, what would you do?
It would totally depend on whether they had shown any interest in me at all. If the person is obviously happy with their current significant other, there's no way I'd try to get in the way of that.

9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
Oh, always. Most recently, overhearing my Dad talking to my brother about me and how he thinks I make terrible decisions in my life.

10. What was the last thing you ate today?
Maple and brown sugar hot oatmeal. Yum.

11. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Too wide a range to describe here. If I shower and wash my hair and everything - 2 hours, usually. Yes, seriously. Although at least 30 minutes of that is spent in front of a fan cooling my stupid body off because it can't seem to regulate its temperature properly.

12. What websites do you visit daily?
LJ, Twitter, myspace. Often Facebook, Google search, Amazon. Some of my own sites to make sure they're running okay.

13. What classes are you taking right now? And if you're not in school anymore, what's your job?
haha Neither applies. No school and no job. And no plans right now for either one.

14. Do you like to clean?
I go through phases where I do, but usually not.

15. What do you want for Christmas?
My credit card bill paid off. Or paid down significantly. And no depression (the disease, not the mood) - for anyone - ever again.

16. What are you doing right now?
Doing this meme, listening to PATD Live in Chicago CD, thinking I need to book a hotel for my trip to LA for the final Phantom Planet show while at the same time debating just selling those tickets.

17. Who was your childhood idol?
When I was actually a child? Either Marie Osmond or Olivia Newton-John.

18. What would you do if you see $100 lying on the ground?
Just on the ground with no possible owner nearby? Yeah, I'd keep it.

19. What is your dream car?
Don't really have one. Something that gets good mileage, has a way to plug in my iPod, is comfortable and nice looking, but doesn't draw too much attention to itself.

20. Tell me something good.
I got an email from Jimmy Simak yesterday. \o/

Things are getting crazier. Mom is still recovering from her foot surgery that took place at the end of August. She's getting around a lot better now, and no major bandage changes are required anymore (I was doing all of her bandage changes), but she still needs a lot of help and isn't driving again yet. Just yesterday she realized I'll be gone all next week and she'll have to ask Dad if she needs help with something. She hates asking Dad for help - he's a total grouch when anyone asks him to do anything, it seems like.

So anyway, my schedule for the next little while:

Oct. 11-18 - Panic Extravaganza and trip to Seattle with [livejournal.com profile] darksylvia
Oct. 19 - Mom's birthday
Oct. 20 - Dad's eye surgery (outpatient, but can't drive for a while)
Oct. 22-24 - at my sister's; she's having surgery for a femoral hernia (outpatient, but can't lift her son for a while)
Unknown date in first 2 weeks of November - Dad's other surgery (um... being done by a colo-rectal surgeon... more serious than hemorrhoids... let's just leave it at that)
Nov. 13 - Black Gold concert in San Francisco

At least that month of craziness begins and ends with fun stuff. And there is a bit of a break, hopefully, after my sister's surgery.

I was planning to have surgery this year to get my VNS implant removed, but I don't think that's going to happen. At least the implant isn't causing me any problems. It's just weird that it's still inside my body when it's been turned off for longer than it was turned on.

Ah well. One day at a time. :-| Must get to bed. Up far too late as it is.

Sorry about my message being split into 2 posts last night. I can never remember what the character limit is. Actually I still don't know. I suppose I could go count the characters in the first post or search the FAQ, but meh... don't wanna.

Mom did much better today, and did go to the doctor this morning. Her blood count was normal, so that's good. Her doctor is still a complete freakin' idiot, and didn't even think it was blood she was throwing up but it couldn't have been anything else and his idea of what it was made no sense at all and regardless, he doesn't plan to do anything about it. But at least her blood count was normal, and the episode seems to be over with, and that's what I'm focusing on. That, and the fact that I still desperately want her and my Dad to switch to a different primary care physician.

Enough about that, though. Thanks to Leah and Bex and Liz and Lidia for the positive thoughts. ::hugs you all::

On a more upbeat note, did I tell you all that Leah and I are going to the Panic show in San Jose now too? So we'll see Panic and The Cab and those other two bands on Oct. 11, 12 and 14. Whew. It's gonna be AWESOME!!!!
jenepherre: (PATD Spencer No Waltzing my friend)
Hi all!

Thanks so much to everyone who left me birthday wishes or sent me v-gifts or e-cards or even just thought about me on or around my birthday Sunday (that pretty much covers everyone, right? LOL). I had a very nice day with my brother, sis-in-law, niece and 3 nephews complete with Baskin Robbins ice cream cake - my favorite! The three older kids sang Happy Birthday to me, which was *hilarious!* All 3 really know how to ham it up! LOL

I've been here in Virginia for about 4 1/2 weeks now and I fly home on Saturday. I really want to stay though!

It's been an eventful month - both good and bad - and I hope you all will forgive me for being scarce. I've spent a *lot* of time helping with my new nephew, who is now about 10 weeks old. He's the fourth child for my brother and his wife, and the other 3 are really a handful, so I've had fun playing with the adorable baby who coos and smiles at me while the parents wrangle the other kids. Actually, all 4 kids are pretty wonderful and I'm going to miss them terribly when I leave.

Events (other than the Panic At The Disco concert in DC on April 30th, which I never really did a proper post about and probably never will now, but it was fantastic!!!) of the past few weeks:

A few days after the Panic concert, I slipped on the stairs and badly bruised my ankle (I thought that was the worse injury at the time) and bruised/possibly fractured my tailbone. My ankle is fine now. My tailbone? Not so much. I haven't been to the doctor or anything - not sure they're much they can do anyway other than confirm whether or not it's fractured - but it hurts a *lot.* I'm fine if I'm just standing or lying down or (in most chairs) sitting, but going from standing to sitting or vice versa is excruciating. It hasn't slowed me down too much though.

We took all of the kids to see Speed Racer in IMAX. Not a movie I would normally care about, but watching it with the kiddos made it *so* much fun! They were literally dancing to the music that played over the end credits. It was so cute. :-D

My uncle - the one who had the brain aneurysm a few months ago - passed away about a week ago. I wanted to go to the funeral so badly - he really meant a lot to me - but there was just no way. My parents drove up to Idaho for it, but I stayed here in Virginia. My aunt was very understanding, of course, but I wish I could have found a way to be there that didn't cost close to $1000. If I'd been home in California at the time, I could have driven up with Mom & Dad, but... ::shrug:: That's the way it goes sometimes, I guess. My uncle did pass very peacefully at home in his own bed during his sleep, and we can't ask for much more than that, can we? It is a comfort to all of us to know that he's no longer trapped in a body that no longer allowed him to do the things he loved to do, or even the simple everyday things we all take for granted.

My internet time has be limited due to all of the above things, combined with only having an internet connection in one room of the house - a room you can't keep the kids out of no matter how hard you try. Heh. I'm not used to having to censure everything I read and view online. I've had to avoid porn and even most of the fanfic I usually read! It's been awful! Although [livejournal.com profile] darksylvia still hasn't posted any new bandslash, so I didn't miss anything there. Better get crackin' though, L. I'll be home in less than a week and I need new fic from you!!

TV watching has been non-existent. My brother doesn't have cable. Or satellite. Or even rabbit ears for his fancy widescreen TV home theater system. Can you imagine? I did see the movie Transformers though. With my 3 year old nephew shouting "Bumblebee" every few minutes. LOL But alas, I have seen no new episodes of Supernatural, nor have I seen Galeface's episode of Desperate Housewives. Though I heard his scene is really short? Hmmm.

It should come as no big surprise that I haven't kept up with my f-list at all. Happiest of birthdays to anyone whose birthday I missed. Hugs to anyone who needs them. High-fives (or my lame attempts at them - just ask Jon Walker haha) to anyone who has had happy, exciting moments.

It should also come as no surprise that... I think I had more I wanted to say, but I can't remember what... fairly typical of me really. If nothing else, I am predictable. ::lame grin::

YES! The bandslash should be bounteous!!! Please share links to your fave PATD bandslash stories from the past month or so! Any pairing. Porn preferred. ;-D

Well, actually the pics are here: http://pics.livejournal.com/jenepherre/gallery/00035eqz

It's late (or early, rather) and I'm tired from taking care of the two youngest nephews all day Thursday and Friday... not sure how I ended up getting stuck with that, except that they both seem to respond to me, which is good, I guess. I do adore them. Anyway, too tired to actually post the pics in my journal, so you'll have to go to the above link to see them.

There are also random and mostly blurry Zack and Shane pics here: http://pics.livejournal.com/jenepherre/gallery/0003ed3z

I did have fun Shane-spotting. And did talk to him again briefly. He's filming some stuff for Black Gold along with all the stuff he's doing for Panic. Also met Eric (again) and Than from Black Gold, and they're both incredibly awesome.

My sis-in-law arrived sometime during Phantom Planet's set, but I was out meeting Eric and Than along with the super cool [livejournal.com profile] atorable. She and I met while waiting for the meet & greet and just happened to have seats almost right next to each other for the show. We went through the meet & greet together, squeed about the boys and hugs and talked about what pot flowers look like up close. It was THE BEST. ;-D

I have video clips too, but haven't figured out where to upload those yet, because they are glorious 640x480 and I don't want YouTube making them look crappy. Maybe I'll just upload to Sendspace? I don't know. Ideas are welcome.

On the downside - unrelated to the concert - I didn't go to NYC after all and didn't get to see Randypants in Antony & Cleopatra. Lois needed to stay home with her hubby after his surgery, and honestly - I was still recovering from the Panic concert anyway. Wren, my dear... I will have to find some other way to pay you back since I couldn't get you a Playbill. Sorry!

It's almost 5am here, and I should think about getting a little bit of sleep. More later, I'm sure. ::waves to [livejournal.com profile] darksylvia, [livejournal.com profile] celiarosalind and [livejournal.com profile] atorable and everyone else on her f-list::
jenepherre: (PATD Spencer profile smile)
I just got off the phone with Artist Arena, and they actually came through!! They just confirmed that I am "100% guaranteed" on the Meet & Greet list for the DC show, to make up for their fuck up in San Francisco. And [livejournal.com profile] darksylvia is on the M&G list for the Seattle show! YAY!!! Maybe Artist Arena is getting their act together, finally. I did point out to them that they misspelled words in their emails too. If you want people to give you money, you have to look professional and trustworthy, know what I mean?

Other good news about the DC show - BLACK GOLD WILL BE PLAYING AT IT!!!!!!!!!!! ERIC RONICK!!!!!!!! And hopefully Brendon will come out and sing the one part of Plans & Reveries with them! I can't wait! Next Wednesday!!!

Then on Friday, I head for NYC. See Randy in Antony & Cleopatra with Lois. Hopefully find time to go to Angels & Kings with [livejournal.com profile] celiarosalind (a mug shot of me in the same spot where Bdon was being silly/drunk! ::fingers crossed::). And do a little bit of sightseeing on Saturday before coming back to DC.

After all that... the big letdown. Nothing exciting planned after that. And a mega-huge credit card bill to pay off. But *so* worth it.

Having a lot of fun with my niece and nephews here. They are so much fun and so affectionate and so *smart.*

Ack - must go get dressed for dinner. We're going out to dinner for Dad's 74th birthday today.

P.S. - [livejournal.com profile] celiarosalind, I will email you after dinner tonight.

I'm here!

I got to Washington DC safe and sound last night (Saturday). However, my main piece of luggage... not so lucky. Still don't know where it is, and Frontier Airlines didn't return any of my calls today. No one was answering the number they gave me to call, so I left a couple of messages. They were actually supposed to call me after the one flight from Denver arrived today (where we had a layover yesterday), but that didn't happen. Hmmm. Luckily I did pack a carry-on with essentials and stuff like you're supposed to, but only enough clothes for a couple of days. And I just want my stuff, you know?

Sorry for the lack of communication for a couple of days, but... traveling. Yay! Best excuse ever. LOL Plus, my bro doesn't have a wireless network, so there's only internet access in the den. And it's cold in the den. And not terribly comfortable. But still... it's not like I'm stuck going to a Starbucks or other WiFi hot spot to get my email.

My 6 week old nephew is gorgeous and loves his Auntie Jen already. Of course. ;-) The other 3 kids all seem pretty happy to see me too. "Auntie Jen, which book should I read you?" "Auntie Jen, come see my gecko!" (The gecko is way cool, btw.) And happy squealing and repeating his older siblings words from the 3 year old. I've missed these kids so much. Haven't seen them for a year.

Not sure what else there is to say at the moment. Not going to try and catch up on all the PATD news tonight. But it was fun to see the guys performing "Valerie" for BBC Live Lounge. Jon on piano!!! Is that awesome or what? Not just playing around during an interview, but actually playing it for a song. Awesomeness.

Will catch up on emails and reply to the LJ comments I've missed over the past couple of days tomorrow. Right now... sleep is needed.

Update and stuff

"Nobody tells me," said Eeyore. "Nobody keeps me informed. I make it seventeen days come Friday since anybody spoke to me."

"It's your fault, Eeyore. You've never been to see any of us. You just stay here in this one corner of the Forest waiting for the others to come to you. Why don't you go to them sometimes?" said Christopher Robin.

::sigh:: That Christopher Robin... he's very wise for his age. Problem is... I'm comfortable in my one corner of the Forest internet. I feel safe here. But it is rather quiet most of the time.

Anyway, I figured I'd post and tell y'all what I've been up to. Should be a short post, except I'll probably start rambling.

My brother and his family from Virginia have been here staying with us. Got here on June 22nd and went back on Tuesday (July 10th). This includes 2 nephews and 1 niece, ranging in age from 2 1/2 years old to 6 1/2 years old. It probably goes without saying, but I adore these kidlets! However, when the other nieces and nephews come to visit at the same time... %)*!@*(#&*(^$)!@#* I love all of my nieces and nephews and it's fun to see them all playing together and getting along, but I really can't handle more than 2 or 3 of them at a time. Yet now that they're gone, I miss them so much. Now it's too quiet.

On Saturday and Sunday we had a family reunion. This house is far too small for 9 adults - 8 of whom are strict Mormon conservative Republicans and 1 who... is me. And 4 nieces and 4 nephews, all under the age of 7. Far too small for all of us to be here at once. But - we did it. And apparently we all survived too. I don't even recall anything getting broken. I realized something on Sunday night, after things had quieted down. My family is not dysfunctional. Other than being Mormon, I mean. But... we all love each other and get along and keep in touch and... we're, like, functional or something. Always have been. WTF is up with that?

So another family visit has come to an end, and I'm having a hard time re-adjusting. Both of my parents (whom I live with - and who are still married after 45 years - so damn functional!) are as well. What am I supposed to do with all the Pokémon knowledge I gained while the kidlets were here? What do I do with the knowledge that Charmander evolves into Charmeleon which evolves into Charizard? Or that Dawn - a character new to Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl - has Piplup as her starter Pokémon, but recently captured a cute little Buneary Pokémon too? Buneary is my favorite, I think. No no... it's Piplup. SEE WHAT I MEAN??? What did these kids do to me??? LOL I might make myself a Piplup icon. Yes, seriously. Maybe. ::blushes::

I've been keeping up with the Rrambles Yahoo group this entire time, but I still feel really out of touch with everything fandom-related. Yes, I know Randy is doing Cuckoo's Nest in Stockbridge right now. I know [livejournal.com profile] big_brian_o posted a new chapter of Gone on Sunday - and it's incredible as always. I know I owe email to a dozen or so people. Of course I always owe email to a few people so that's nothing strange. I owe [livejournal.com profile] sdrichey a birthday B/J wallpaper. I want to send something cheery to the amazing and brave [livejournal.com profile] teary_eyed2 but can't figure out what to make or send. All of my websites are in desperate need of updates and renovations. Several sites I do for other people also need to be finished and updated and whatnot. I need to pick out some replacement furniture for my bedroom to the make the room more organized and live-able. But am I getting any of those things accomplished? Not even slightly.

So I guess what I'm saying is this: it's business as usual here in my little version of the 100 Acre Wood. Ha! Life is pretty damn normal. ::yawn::
