My weirdness, and other stuff
Monday, September 11th, 2006 05:55 amSorry about my weird posts from earlier. We had, I guess, a 'brown-out' for a couple of hours here. That's the first time I've ever experienced one of those. It was kind of spooky the way some of the lights and things still worked, but at a much lower strength than usual, and the lights that were on would flicker as the power increased and decreased. Not a big deal really, but it was new to me, and I hate being cut off from everyone. So I posted using my cell phone. hehe
Huge hugs to
blkandwhtcat,
shape5 and my dear
humming_along. Love you guys!!
I may not be all that proud of our country right now, but that in no way diminishes the loss and the feeling of terror we all experienced on this day five years ago. Even if you didn't know anyone personally who died that day, and even if you don't live in the United States, your life changed that day. I'd like to say that we've made a lot of progress in the last 5 years, but that's not for me to judge, and not really appropriate to talk about today, in my opinion. Today is to remember those that we lost, and those who - in the days and weeks and months following - lost a little piece of themselves while working as part of the recovery effort.
I made the ribbons below on Sept. 13, 2001. I needed to do something to help, but I had no money to give or any other way to contribute. I saw lots of tribute graphics appearing on the web in the days following 9/11, but everyone wanted credit or didn't want to share them at all. That just rubbed me the wrong way, so I made these - 100% original, drawn in vector format in Paintshop Pro 7. They had to be completely original so that I would be able to claim the copyright on them, and then turn around and say "here you go - use 'em however you want - no charge, no credit or link back needed." So here you go. Again. If you'd like a red, white and blue ribbon graphic for your LJ, the codes are below. No credit or link back required. You can even snag the icon version I'm using if you want.
If you'd like the ribbons in transparent background .psd format or vector PSP7 format, just go here.
